Connecticut Weatherization Assistance Program

The State of  Connecticut has recently been in the limelight with one of the highest utility rates in the country. According to a recent study, the average residential electricity rate in Connecticut is 25 ¢/kWh, which is 40% higher than the national average rate of 18 ¢/kWh. This has placed tremendous pressure on low-income households who are struggling to pay utilities. This is where weatherization comes in.

The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) of the United States Department of Energy (DOE) provides grants to states, territories, and some Indian tribes to improve the energy efficiency of low-income people’s houses. These governments, in turn, enter into contracts with local governments and charitable agencies in order to provide weatherization services to individuals who are in need of employing the most recent technologies for improvements to residential energy efficiency.

Why You Need Weatherization

Weatherization is a process of making your home more energy efficient. This can help you save money on your utility bills and will also help the environment by reducing the amount of greenhouse gas emissions that are released into the atmosphere.
