The Florida Low-Income Utility Assistance Program

The Florida Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provides grants to municipal governments and non-profit organizations to assist qualifying low-income households in Florida with the costs of home heating and cooling. The great majority of the funds are used to assist people in making utility payments.

Customers who qualify for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program can use this program to assist pay their home energy bills. This program offers three types of help: household energy assistance, crisis assistance, and energy crisis assistance due to supply shortages or weather-related situations. Who is eligible to take part in this program?

To qualify for this assistance program, you must be a Florida resident and establish that you are in need of financial assistance with the costs of maintaining your home.

If a person participates in or has family members who participate in certain other benefit programs, such as SNAP, SSI, or TANF, that person automatically meets the qualifying conditions for other programs.

To qualify, your household’s annual gross income must be less than the following amounts, before taxes are deducted:

*Add $7,080 for each new member in a household with more than eight persons. Always double-check the instructions with the appropriate controlling agency to confirm that you are following the most recent version.
